Remington College - Lafayette Campus Medical Billing and Coding Program

Our students begin their studies in medical billing and coding with lower-module courses covering medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and more. Students then move to the upper medical biller and coder modules to learn computerized medical billing using Medisoft and SpringCharts computer programs, electronic health records (EHRs), disease classification codes, common procedural terminology (CPT), and more.

Students train in key medical front-office and back-office skills and learn about the important role that the Medical Records Department plays in healthcare.

Our students are encouraged to join the local chapter of the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), where they can keep abreast of updates in the changing field of medical billing and coding. This is a great vehicle for networking opportunities as well.

As they complete their month-long externship, students are encouraged to study for their Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam, administered through the AAPC.^(3,4)

Events and Activities for Lafayette Medical Biller and Coders

Our students gain insights on the realities of the industry by hearing from guest speakers including representatives from South Eastern Physicians Corp., a local medical billing company. They also hear from organization leaders such as local AAPC recruitment, medical benefits, and certification specialists.

Students in our Medical Billing and Coding school program in Lafayette are eligible for nomination to the Nightingales Medical Honor Society if they have a GPA of 3.8 or higher, at least a 90% attendance rate, and an outstanding work ethic.
