Using OneDrive on Surface

OneDrive is free cloud storage that comes with your Microsoft account. It’s like an extra hard drive that’s available from any of the devices you use, so the files you save there are always with you.

Access OneDriveThere are a few different ways to access OneDrive.
OneDrive.com. If you have an Internet connection, you can always get to your files from any web connected device by going to Onedrive.com in your web browser and signing in with your Microsoft Account.
OneDrive app on the Start screen. Tap or click on the OneDrive tile to open the OneDrive app. The app provides a touch optimized way to access your OneDrive files on your Surface device. You can also launch the OneDrive app from Apps view. Here's how: Swipe up from the middle of the screen to see the Apps view. (If you’re using a mouse, click the down arrow  in the bottom-left corner of the screen.)
File Explorer on the Desktop. A quick way to view, move, and copy your files to OneDrive. The OneDrive folder on your desktop works like any other local folder, except your files are stored in the cloud.

Tip
If you're connecting to the Internet using mobile broadband, keep in mind that moving files to or from OneDrive involves data transmission. Syncing or sending data across a mobile broadband connection could result in extra charges. For more info, see ”Managing data use: OneDrive settings for metered connections” below.

Save files, photos, and more to OneDrive automatically
OneDrive is typically the recommended location that appears when you save Microsoft Office files (like Word docs and Excel worksheets), PDFs, and other documents. And, since your Surface has a built-in camera, you can automatically save copies of the photos you take directly to OneDrive (in the Camera Roll folder) so you’ll always have a backup. To make sure your Surface is set to save automatically, check your OneDrive settings.
