Ice Caving
When many of his colleagues are enjoying the end of their summer vacations, IU geologist Lee Florea will be lugging a 65-pound pack up the slopes of 14,410-foot-high Mount Rainier and spending a week doing intensive research in one of the most inhospitable environments on Earth. Florea is taking part in a multiyear effort to map and study the extensive system of ice caves under the glaciers on the mountain.
Law Students Overseas
The IU Maurer School of Law has selected 23 students for its 2017 Stewart Fellows Overseas Externship Program. The fellows are spending the summer working around the globe, from Argentina to Vietnam, as part of a unique program offered through the school’s Milt and Judi Stewart Center on the Global Legal Profession. They’ll be working for corporations, nongovernmental organizations, and respected law firms.
One Day/One Hoosier
Kaeli Bryant jumped right into pursuing her passion for science before she even began classes at IU, participating in the precollege Integrated Freshman Learning Experience (IFLE). Now a Cox Research Scholar and participant in the Science, Technology, and Research Scholars (STARS) program, the rising sophomore is working in a microbiology lab full time this summer, and serving as an IFLE mentor.
