BETHEL TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHP) At least three people were killed, several more injured and others left trapped in their cars after a massive multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 78 in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, Saturday morning.
An aerial photo of the scene from PennLive showed at least 50 vehicles involved in the crash.
Victims were being transported to the Jonestown Perseverance Fire Company at 107 S. King St. in Jonestown.
According to a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokeswoman, crews were in the area patrolling and treating the roadways and reported a sudden snow squall.
The crash was reported between mile markers 6 and 8 in Bethel Township around 9:30 a.m. That is just northeast of Fredericksburg.
Several people were injured in the crash, including many who were trapped inside of vehicles.
At least five medical helicopters were called to the scene.
CBS 21 has several crews at the scene working to gather additional information.
Thirteen members of the Penn State Lehigh Valley basketball team were involved in the serious accident Saturday. The team was on its way to a game in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, when the team bus hit a tractor trailer. So far, there are no reports of anyone aboard the bus being seriously injured. The students were taken to a local hospital for precautionary measures, according to a release.
