Computer Security and Digital Forensics

Digital information is everywhere – in our homes and businesses, our financial institutions, and our critical infrastructure. We use and store data via pervasive cloud computing, network applications, social media, and mobile devices, as well as in our computers and tablets. Valuable information is often vulnerable to compromise – copying, modification, deletion, or disclosure – by malware, viruses, and highly sophisticated emerging threats such as APT and DNS cache poisoning. The laws that protect us are constantly evolving, but technology is changing even faster. Cybercrime, and even cyber warfare, are a fact of life, and the need for qualified computer security and digital forensics experts has never been greater.

The Certificate in Computer Security and Digital Forensics will be of interest to individuals just starting their career; career changers seeking to achieve advancement, portability, and longevity goals; managers and end users requiring a more in-depth understanding of computer security and data protection; and long-time practitioners seeking to round out their knowledge and attain a recognized level of academic achievement.

Computer security breaches can entail millions of dollars in damages. Today’s management requires a good understanding of the issues and technologies underlying the protection of computer systems and data as part of expected due diligence.

Important Note: Knowledge of TCP/IP is recommended.

Students must have a Windows or Linux computer operating system; the Apple (MAC) operating system is not supported by this course.
