Online Bachelor Degree Programs in Wyoming

Wyoming is not usually mentioned in conversations about states with the most higher education opportunities. However, thanks mainly to the branch campuses of colleges with national operations, adult learners and non-traditional students in the state don’t have to go without. The schools afford students a chance to earn a bachelor’s degree online from their off-campus location, taking classes at times convenient for them. CollegeAmerica – Cheyenne

CollegeAmerica – Cheyenne is a for-profit institution that is part of a network of CollegeAmerica campuses located in Arizona, Colorado, and Idaho. The Cheyenne campus offers fully online bachelors degrees in accounting (with an optional emphasis on forensic accounting), business administration, networking and information systems security, and software and mobile applications development. These programs feature the same assignments and course materials as the campus-based curricula, along with the added flexibility associated with distance education. Since the school recognizes more students are taking hybrid and online courses, students are given a new laptop upon enrolling that is theirs to keep upon graduation.

University of Wyoming

The University of Wyoming is the only institution to offer online bachelors degree programs in Wyoming. Students can enroll in the school’s online bachelors degree program in business administration or the RN/BSN completion program. These programs are available to students who have already completed their basic general education and prerequisite courses at a community college or other university. The University of Wyoming’s online courses can be accessed at any time and from any place that has Internet access. However, students may need to be online at certain times each week to participate in interactive learning sessions. Online students can talk with their professors and peers through email, chat, or Web conferencing, and they can access course documents such as class notes or reading assignments at any time.

University of Phoenix – Cheyenne Campus

The University of Phoenix is one of the most prominent for-profit institutions in the country. It has dozens of campuses and learning centers across the United States, including in Cheyenne, Wyo. The university offers 14 different online bachelor’s degree programs with many different areas of emphasis in accounting, business administration, communications, criminal justice, health administration, psychology, and more. Students can communicate with professors and their classmates by email or instant message, participate in class discussions through message boards, and access course materials at any time of the day. The format gives working students who don’t have the time to attend class several times a week the opportunity to earn their degrees and advance their careers.

Higher Education in Wyoming


The public higher education system in Wyoming consists of the University of Wyoming and seven community colleges, including Casper College, Eastern Wyoming College, and Northwest College. Wyoming, the least populated state in the country, is also home to four private institutions, including CollegeAmerica – Cheyenne, the University of Phoenix, and Wyotech Laramie. The University of Wyoming, the state’s only public four-year school, serves nearly 13,000 students at its campus in Laramie. Wyoming’s second largest school, Laramie County Community College, enrolls approximately 5,100 students, indicating the size of the overall student population in the state.

Although only a handful of higher education institutions in Wyoming offer online degree programs, the state’s Department of Education does support distance education for K-12 students. Its programs include the Wyoming Equality Network, which is a wide area network (WAN) providing data connectivity to every school in the area. The state also provides a resource, known as the Wyoming Switchboard Network, featuring a list of current distance education providers. Distance education grants are available for school districts, community colleges, and the University of Wyoming to reimburse the cost of course content design and creation, accreditation, maintenance, and operational needs.
