ABOUT MCLEAN SIGNATURE RECOVERY PROGRAMS - FERNSIDE

Fernside is one of two residential facilities operated by Harvard Medical School affiliate McLean Hospital. From a scenic rural setting in Princeton, Mass., the facility provides high-end residential treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders including depression, anxiety, and trauma. Medical detox is not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

McLean Fernside prides itself on its individualized treatment programs, which aim to address the mental, physical, and spiritual components of addiction.

The rehab integrates 12-step work with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational enhancement therapy (MET), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and mindfulness.

Medication management is also available on-site. Individual therapy is provided, and group therapy sizes are kept small. Couples therapy is available as needed. Clients are also educated on the nature of disease and addiction, and family participation is strongly encouraged.

According to the facility’s website, the physical and spiritual sides of addiction are addressed through yoga, individual fitness plans, smoking cessation classes, nutrition education, and art and music therapies.

Aftercare planning begins during treatment, and clients’ loved ones are consulted while assembling an aftercare plan.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

McLean Fernside offers a staff-to-client ratio of 1:9. Staff includes board-certified psychiatrists and physicians, some of whom teach at Harvard Medical School. Other treatment team members include nurses, licensed counselors, and community residence counselors.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The facility has an onsite fitness studio and a fully stocked art studio.

Smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas, and visitors are welcome on weekend afternoons. Housekeeping services are provided. Treatment lasts 30 days. All snacks, meals, and drinks are provided.
