Plumbing FAQ
plunging a toilet
How do I remove a hair clog in my bathroom sink? Disconnect the pipe under the sink and then you can lift out the Pop-Up to remove the hair and debris.
Is it safe to use chemicals to clean a clogged pipe? Never use a chemical cleaner to remove a clog from the pipes. The cleaner will damage your pipes and discolor the finish on sinks and toilets. If a clog will not plunge clean, chemicals will not work either.
Is there a correct or incorrect way to use a plunger? Most people, including plumbers, do not know how to properly use a plunger. When you have a clog, it is there because it cannot go any further. Forcing air and water against the clog will not move it. In order to clean the clog, you need to lower the plunger to the bottom of the toilet and then use a strong upward motion. If a vacuum is created properly, it will cause the clog to pull away from the obstruction. Once the vacuum created by the plunger is broken, you can then attempt to push the clog through the drain to clear.
What is the safest way to clean a Garbage Disposal? Don’t ever stick your fingers down a garbage disposal! Even if there is no power supplied to the circuit, the stationary blades are very sharp and could easily cause injury. Using ice is a safe method of removing grease or any food debris that may cling to the blades.
Why do I not have good water pressure in my kitchen and bathroom faucets? Kitchen and Bathroom Faucets have an aerator where the water comes out. Over time, small deposits build up and restrict water flow. The aerator will unscrew from the faucet and can be cleaner or replaced if needed.
Is it safe to use cleaning chemicals in the top tank of my toilet? Never place chemicals in the top tank of your toilet. The chemicals will cause the Rubber and Moving parts to break down causing the toilet to run or leak.
Why don’t I have good water pressure? Check faucet filter first, it can be cleaned or replaced if needed.
