2013 Subaru Outback Model Overview

The Subaru Outback crossover stands out in its segment thanks to its light off-road capability wrapped in a wagon-like bodystyle. It’s also one of the few sport utilities in its price range to offer advanced safety features like pre-collision braking, an item that’s included in the new-for-2013 EyeSight driver-assist system. Other technologies packaged in the EyeSight system include lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pedestrian detection. EyeSight works in conjunction with a stereo camera that monitors the road ahead.

The 2013 Outback also receives an updated 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder engine that now produces 173 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque, up 3 horsepower and 4 lb-ft from the outgoing 2012 model. The updated engine also achieves better fuel economy, with an EPA-rated 30 mpg on the highway when equipped with the continuously variable transmission (28 mpg highway with the six-speed manual). Those who need more power can opt for the 256-hp 3.6-liter boxer-six, which is mated to a five-speed automatic. Both engines include Subaru’s Symmetrical all-wheel drive system as the lone drivetrain choice.

The four-cylinder Outback is offered with three trim levels that includes the 2.5i base, 2.5i Premium, and 2.5i Limited. The six-cylinder is sold in either 3.6R base or 3.6R Limited trim. Standard items include Bluetooth, split-folding rear seats, and six-way manually-adjustable driver’s seat. Leather, navigation, EyeSight safety system, and an appearance package are available on higher trim levels. And thanks to items like ABS and Brake Assist, the 2013 Outback earned a five-star overall crash rating from the NHTSA.

New for 2013
The EyeSight driver-assist system is now available. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder gets a power bump and a second-generation CVT, and a revised suspension improves road noise and handling. Subaru also tweaked the front grille and revised the interior amenities.
